Frequently Asked Questions
Will the Reimagine Project and new park increase my taxes?
No, the Reimagine Project will not increase your taxes. While City of Altus employees and officials are involved in supporting the project, this is a community-driven effort funded entirely through grants, sponsorships, and private donations — not through taxpayer dollars.
Who is leading the Reimagine Project?
The project is a partnership between Cunningham Recreation, Altus Parks + Recreation, the Altus Community Foundation, Altus Chamber of Commerce, City of Altus, and the Play 4 All Altus Action Team, made of community members, local leaders, educators, government officials, parks and recreation staff, parents of children with disabilities, and public health representatives.
Why does Imagination Station need to be replaced?
The current playground has aged beyond safe usability standards and does not meet accessibility requirements. The new design will offer a fully inclusive, ADA-accessible space for children of all abilities to play and grow.
Will the demolition of the current park preserve the original donor contributions?
Yes! We deeply respect the legacy of the original Imagination Station and the many families, donors, and volunteers who helped bring it to life. Some team members experienced the park when it opened and we are all committed to preserving the spirit, history, and legacy of the original park.
How much will the new Imagination Station playground cost?
The total cost of the project is still being finalized but is estimated to be around $2.5 million. This includes equipment, surfacing, landscaping, and new accessibility features.
How can I support or donate to the project?
You can support the Reimagine Project by making a donation, becoming a sponsor, attending fundraising events, or simply helping spread the word by sharing our website or posts on social media! Fo more information on how to get involved click here!
When will construction start, and how long will it take?
Once full funding is secured, construction will begin shortly after. The playground and fitness area portion of the build is expected to take approximately 10-14 weeks. The skatepark, restroom remodel, parking lot surfacing, lighting, fencing, and security cameras will be dependent on contractor availability and bidding processes.
